The Hunter region has a proud and enduring brass band tradition, and 2NURFM is the only local radio station that brings the rich sound of brass music to listeners.

For more than 36 years, Geoff McGregor has been the voice behind Brass Encounters, drawing on an extraordinary 47-year involvement in brass banding. His passion, knowledge, and deep connections within the brass band community have made the program a favourite for enthusiasts across the region and beyond.

Geoff's outstanding contribution to music and the community has been recognised with numerous honours, including being named Lake Macquarie Citizen of the Year in 2005. A State and National Champion in both playing and marching, he is widely respected as one of the region's leading tenor horn players.

Each week, Brass Encounters showcases the very best in brass band music from around the world, featuring everything from timeless classics to the latest releases, often giving listeners the chance to hear new recordings before they're broadcast anywhere else.
